What You’ll Be Doing – The Milling Working Crew Leader (MCL) role is an important leadership position working in the Milling production area at the Newport site. Position is responsible for coordinating the activities of the crew in a safe and productive manner. The WCL is accountable for the shift’s B&P area output and executing the elements of the Toyota Production System every day in line with the expectations of the B&P Unit Leader.

Support and adhere to the principles of the American Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care® by protecting the environment, health, safety and security of our employees, contractors, carriers, distributors, visitors, customers and neighbors. Be knowledgeable of and follow all Environmental, Health and Safety practices including but not limited to: manage waste movements according to satellite and/or 90-day accumulation requirements, inspect air contaminant sources and institute corrective action for out-of-spec conditions, prevent releases into the sewer and/or storm water systems by following BMP’s (best management practices), activate BASF emergency response procedures in case of spills or other emergencies. Comply with the requirements of the ISO9001: 2015 Quality Management System.
Accountable that the Milling production areas comply with site EHS guidelines, department EHS guidelines, and production operating procedures on a 24/7 basis. This includes all documentation related to environmental and safety compliance, production batch cards, and shift relief documentation.
Support behavior based safety (ERP) by supporting SIREN observers on your team to complete behavior based observations in support of an improved safety culture.
Accountable for executing Toyota Production System through crew to ensure productivity improvements are sustainable and part of the B&P areas culture (e.g. Standard Work, 5S, Visual Management, and area KPIs) and uses these tools and metrics to identify and drive continuous improvement projects across the Blending & Packaging production areas.
Authorize work under safe work permits and complete 4-eyes before and after permitted work is completed for general work, LOTO, and line break permits.
Develop trouble shooting capabilities of your crew through training and on the job problem solving opportunities. Support the training plans of crew employees and support Unit Leader and PMC in assessing employee competency.
Provide regular feedback to Unit Leader and PMC regarding equipment malfunctions or failures in the B&P area and enter Maintenance Notifications for those equipment issues.

Required

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 3 years of experience in an ISO certified chemical manufacturing plant.
Minimum 2 years of experience in pigment finishing processes.
Capabilities to train others on the area production processes.
Computer skills – ability to learn/work with MS Office, OSI PI process data collection software, and plant distributed control software.
Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
Ability to learn/apply troubleshooting skills in a complex manufacturing environment.
Well-developed and practical knowledge of occupational and process safety requirements (LOTO, Confined Space, Hot Work, PPE, etc.)
Ability to coordinate crew to execute the Toyota Production System in the Milling Area to drive sustainable improvements.
Passion for quality, continuous improvement and meeting customer needs.
Willingness/Ability to be a member of the site’s emergency response team.
Willingness/Ability to work overtime beyond the standard Newport 12-hour shift schedule.

Desired

Personnel leadership/management experience preferred.
Working knowledge of pigment blending and packaging operations preferred.
