Undergraduate Academic Affairs has an outstanding opportunity for a NextGen Civic Leader Corps Coordinator to join the Community Engagement and Leadership Education Center.

Undergraduate Academic Affairs (UAA) shapes, advances and stewards a world-class undergraduate academic experience for students at the University of Washington. Staff, faculty and students in UAA deepen and enrich the learning experience for all undergraduates, recognizing and supporting the unique learning path of each individual student and the commitment of each academic program to excellence in learning and teaching.

Within UAA the Community Engagement and Leadership Education (CELE) Center provides students with opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to contribute to thriving communities. Building authentic community and campus partnerships drive our work. CELE Center programs include Community-Engaged Learning, Dream Project, Husky Leadership Initiative, Jumpstart, Riverways Education Partnerships, Othello-UW Commons and Undergraduate Community Based Internships.

The CELE Center has an outstanding opportunity for a dynamic, service-oriented, and student-centered individual to join our team as a NextGen Civic Leader Corps Coordinator. The position is funded for two years with the possibility of extension.

The NextGen Civic Leader Corps is the local site of a national network of public service programs for undergraduates funded by the Volcker Alliance. At the University of Washington, the program is a collaborative effort between Undergraduate Academic Affairs and the Evans School of Public Policy and Governance. The NextGen Civic Leader Corps aims to spark, recognize, hone, and nurture deeper commitments to public and community service for undergraduate students.

The NextGen Civic Leader Corps Coordinator will engage students, faculty, staff, and alumni, along with varied community and campus partners to further implement curricular and co-curricular programming for undergraduate students interested in public service. The NextGen program aims to engage a broad cross-section of incoming and continuing UW undergraduate students throughout their undergraduate experience. The 2022-23 academic year will be the first full year of implementation for this new program.

The NextGen Civic Leader Corps Coordinator reports to the Director of Community Engagement in the CELE Center and collaborates closely with program staff and senior leadership in the Evans School. The position has the following responsibilities:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Recruitment, Advising and Retention (45%)

Develop an effective recruitment strategy, involving other program staff as needed
Manage outreach, recruitment, and selection processes for successive cohorts of students interested in the corps. This may include coordinating Dawg Daze events, networking with Registered Student Organizations, and/or leveraging relationships with academic and student life advisers to reach student populations
Serve as academic support specialist, connector and guide for NextGen students
Implement advising program to build community with and among student corps members
Develop peer-leadership opportunities within the cohort; supervise and support peer-leaders
Engage in Civic Fellowship design, selection, and implementation processes as requested
Maintain interpersonal relationships with NextGen Corps members and alumni support of larger CELE Center and/or Evans School constituent engagement efforts
Maintain primary logistics responsibility for NextGen programs and events
Contribute to process improvements around internal management systems
Monitor regular attendance and participation in programming for NextGen cohort
Maintain system to track student progress through program requirements
Communicate regularly and proactively with students regarding their program status and required action items to remain active in the program.
Collaborate with community and campus partners on annual student recognition events Evaluation, Communication, and Administration (45%)
Maintain quality of experiential learning/internships; identify potential areas for improvements
Draft reports on student involvement and outcomes in support of institutional funding requirements and/or grant applications
Maintain web presence for program, ensuring that materials are clear, concise and up-to-date
Contribute to social media engagement related to program events through existing channels within CELE, Evans, and/or University accounts
Support the development of NextGen programming at the UW Bothell and UW Tacoma campuses through participation in the tri-campus network, technical support for colleagues on those campuses, and coordinating shared programming in alignment with program goals
Participate in planning committee for annual student recognition events; lead sub-committees as requested
Participate in a national network of Next Generation Public Service programs Culture and Committees (10%)
Participate in CELE Center, UAA, and other campus meetings and committees as needed
Play a key role in developing and maintaining an internal organizational culture consistent with CELE Center values and strategic priorities; serve as a thought partner and key collaborator with CELE programs
Collaborate with the Evans School undergraduate programs team to align activities with and integrate the NextGen initiative into strategic plans for the school
Serve on community partner committees related to the scope of the position’s responsibilities

Collaboration and Teamwork MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Two (or more) years of experience in program support and/or student services. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Strong commitment to pursue racial equity and social justice through initiatives that connect campus with wider community.
Aptitude for developing collaborative relationships with colleagues, faculty, staff, students, and community partners.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and appropriately (through written word and public speaking) with varied stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative in a team-based environment, follow through on independent projects, and balance multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail.
Desire to actively engage diverse populations of undergraduate students.
Willing to work evenings and weekends Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with recruitment and outreach among undergraduate student populations
Professional experience managing volunteers/interns in a complex non-profit or government organization.
Place-based relationships and network in the Seattle non-profit community.
