Essential Job Functions
Safety- Safe Environment; Safety of patients and employees

Assures proper use of safety equipment and devices; holds individuals accountable if non-compliant.
Promptly investigates and resolves Significant Occurrence Reports and incident reports as necessary.

Understands and effectively deploys the LEAN tools to streamline work processes, eliminating waste and redundancy while improving productivity.

Specialty Functions
Auditing of the Radiation Safety Program
Reviewing radiation personnel dosimetry results on a monthly basis for all Excela Health entities and their subsidiaries and maintaining all personnel exposures within the Health systems ALARA program.
Performing Radiation Safety / compliance audits for at least eight Nuclear Medicine programs located in our system.
Reviewing techniques that involve Radiation for safety and efficacy
Manage Excela Health system Radiation Safety Committee
Attend and monitor the frequent government inspections of the Health Systems facilities
Monitor the Health system for radioactive materials.
Keep an oversight of the waste stream at Excela health to monitor the releases for radioactive contamination.
Monitor designated intake points in Excela Health for unsuspected radioactive material entry.
Perform licensing activities for Excela Health.
Maintain the three Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection licenses for each hospital in the system.
Lecture the Health System on current Radiation Safety practice
Perform mandatory radiation safety lectures for all Excela Health entities
Perform Diagnostic Medical Physics services for the Health system.
Assist in performing diagnostic physics testing on Radiographic/Fluoroscopic units with Excela health test equipment and maintain physics reports to meet inspection standards.
Assist in performing diagnostic physics testing on Ultrasound units within Excela health. Test equipment and maintain physics reports to meet ACR standards.
Assist in performing diagnostic physics testing on MRI units within Excela health. Test equipment and maintain physics reports to meet ACR standards.
Assist in performing diagnostic physics testing on CT scanner units within Excela health. Test equipment and maintain physics reports to meet inspection standards.
Assist in performing diagnostic physics testing on Mammographic units within Excela health. Test equipment and maintain physics reports to meet MQSA and ACR standards.
Assist in performing diagnostic physics testing on Nuclear Medicine Cameras within Excela health. Test equipment and maintain physics reports to meet ACR standards.
Perform Medical Physics services for the Nuclear Medicine departments
Provide quality control measurements for test equipment in Nuclear Medicine Departments.
Perform dose calculations for patients who have received radioactive material injections if required by staff.
Counsel therapeutic radiation treatment patients regarding regulations that should be followed during their course of therapy.
Maintain the radiation detection survey equipment for Excela Health.
Provide input and budgeting on measurement equipment used in the testing and monitoring of Radiation equipment.
Provide resources for emergency preparedness for Radiation Accident cases.
Oversee Waltz Mill plan for receipt of radioactive patients from their facility.
Provide input to the city of Greensburg for their disaster readiness plan.
Participate on Excela Health committee.
Maintain expertise in new Radiologic modalities to enhance Excela’s knowledge base.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
Five (5) years of experience in Radiology or Radiation Safety.
Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment,
Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
Medical Terminology.
Knowledge of basic Office Equipment such as copier, fax machine, computers, etc.
Proficiency in the use of Excel Spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and various software programs.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook.
Strong time management and organizational skills; ability to work independently and in a team setting; creativity in treatment in various settings including inpatient, skilled nursing and outpatient clinics; ability to transition smoothly between various treatment settings.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree.
Radiation Safety experience in a hospital setting.
License, Certification & Clearances
Licensed Radiation Safety Officer in the State of PA or obtain certificate from the NMTCB as a Radiation Safety Officer within three (3) years of commencement of employment.
Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
Travel may be expected locally between Excela Health locations.
